Congrats on making it to the 3rd page of our U-shaped kitchen gallery. You’ve seen a lot of pictures so far and hopefully got a few fresh ideas for your own home.
On the oft chance that you somehow arrived here on Countertop Investigator without seeing the first two pages here are the links to the small and functional ones and to the big and beautiful ones.
On this page it’s all about the peninsula and usually an open concept floor plan. There are a number of interesting and slightly out of the box design ideas on here so take your time and read the captions where I point out my favorite or least favorite feature of each space.
Other Kitchen Design Pages People Are Reading
Peninsulas are one of my favorite design aspects because they lend themselves to a casual eating area for breakfast with the family or a good place for company to gather during parties. No more food on random tray tables around the house or hidden in the kitchen.
They help keep people in the common areas of the home instead of crowding into where you’re trying to prepare food and all the other things you do while entertaining.
Great place for a tapered column. src
You need lot’s of light when you have dark cabinets. src
The tone of the full overlay cabinets looks awesome with the walnut and soapstone work surface. src
The natural wood is fantastic and is perfect considering the view. src
Pure white counters like these are likely quartz.
The light fixtures turn this otherwise blasé room into an elegant one.
Camera trickery is making this room look much larger than it really is.
That’s a creative way to use the peninsula to get more room out of a U shape.
Why not orange?
Very calm and relaxing thanks to the colors used.
This is fine until you smash the french door into the handle on the refrigerator.
Something tells me they could have spent money on a much larger kitchen but chose to go with quality over quantity.
I’m assuming that those are reclaimed woods on the peninsula. They look fantastic!
What is that high up on the walls? I do like the tray ceiling.
Very nice country style kitchen except for the corian. I think natural stone is the best way to go.
I love this room!
It’s almost too simple for me.
Perfect for my house. Take a microwave meal or side out of the fridge, and put it in the microwave without having to move my feet.
Pretty bold use of color but it works well.
Crown molding around the ceiling is an inexpensive upgrade.
This big peninsula is the perfect place for the family to have pancakes on Sunday morning.
How do I open the drawers and cabinets without handles or pulls?
Nothing crazy here. It’s almost boring.
I just don’t like this type of wood unless you’re a hobbit living in the trunk of a tree.
Nice millwork details on the peninsula.
I really like the commercial kitchen style faucet. It’s not the looks that excite me, it’s how functional it is.
The camera man/woman really made the fridge look much further away than it really is by using a lens to make the whole room look longer.
Shaker style cabinets are lookin’ good!
